Day 31: Carbs Galore!

Today we woke up hellishly early (5:30AM) to leave our hostel at 6AM so we could get to the airport by 7AM for a 9AM flight to Zagreb, Croatia. Boy did that suck. Especially because I drank too much tea the night before and couldn't sleep very well. I probably got a total of 3 hours of sleep last night >.< Anyways, Ataturk Airport is actually really nice! And of course, expensive. We were trying to get rid of the last of our Lira coins, and we ended up buying overpriced water and a pastry. (I also bought a Burger King soft serve cone, which actually wasn't too bad at $1.50) What a healthy breakfast!

The flight to Croatia was about 2 hours, and they served us a meal on it too! But Steph and I mostly just slept the whole time. I think this was the first time I actually slept through the landing haha. All of a sudden, I woke up and we were on the ground already! Zagreb's airport, on the other hand, is super tiny! And we took a coach bus to the bus station, where we transferred to the tram to get to our hostel. Called the Funk Lounge Hostel, it's actually pretty nice, and has super cute decor! On the downside, the wifi hates my phone and I can only connect on my laptop. T__T

After we had settled in, we decided to walk to the city center to do some light sightseeing and exploring. On our way we went to an outdoor produce market to buy some fruit, and also stopped at a bakery or two for some pastries for lunch! We also found this super cute cafe called Amelie, where we shared a slice of carrot cake, a giant macaron, and Stephanie got this awesome syrup drink (pictures of it below)!

There are literally bakeries on every block! And so cheap too! I'm in pastry heaven!

Syrups to flavor your water with! Sooo cute! (Steph bought Sage)

After we finished eating, we toured the Cathedral (but one of the spires was under renovation and was covered with scaffolding, so it didn't look as cool from the outside), and then walked to a large square with lots of shopping. We realized a lot of brands are actually cheaper here than the rest of Europe and even in the US! So I ended up buying fancy conditioner (because the travel-sized ones I brought had run out) and a couple things from Zara and H&M! We also went to this neat museum called the Museum of Broken Relationships. Literally just has donated items from failed/broken relationships, with backstories for each. Some of them were funny, some weird, and some really depressing...

A couple of my favorite exhibits!

Getting tired already, we decided to have an early dinner and then head back.
