Day 2: Ceci n'est pas une blog

We started off at the Magritte Museum. It's only a few years old, and is dedicated to the life and works of Rene Magritte, probably most famous for this:
It had a pretty interesting layout: different floors for different periods of his life, with quotes of his interspersed throughout. But overall, I think I was expecting more. (Or like, more of his more famous artwork) But of course they wouldn't be able to house ALL of his famous works there... At least the student price was only 2 euros! And it was cool seeing him go through an Impressionist phase in his artwork.

The music museum is right across the street, and has a really nice facade! And apparently you can go to the top floor where there's a cafe, and have a cup of coffee w/o having to pay the admission fee! Too bad we found out after we had already left :(

Next we made our way to Grand-Place, which was a really impressive plaza! It's surrounded by monumental buildings on all sides, with many buildings gilded with gold leaf! I love gold leaf! haha. Then Stephanie and I quickly realized how annoying it was to have to try and ask other people every time we wanted a photo together... :( We were like, trying to find tourists with dslr's, and who also spoke English, and who were also walking our way....

I fail at taking selfies.... >.<

After we had visited the Manneken Pis (Peeing Boy) and Sablon, and were out of things to do, we just started to wander around in hopes of coming across more cool sights or a brewery or something. We did manage to find the Palace of Justice, and a nice view of the city, but we also realized that we were too embarrassed trying to go into a local bar with an all-French menu to try and taste some beer. So we figured we could order Belgian beer at dinner. Unfortunately, turns out we ended up going to an Izakaya for a yummy (albeit Japanese) dinner. At least there's still Germany!

So many wafflessssss

Disappointments of the day/Things to learn from:
1) Not being able to buy Belgian waffles in the subway. (Apparently at some stations they'll have carts selling fresh made waffles for 1 euro! We didn't see any though :( )
2) Not being able to buy souvenir chocolate because it'll probably get destroyed during the rest of the trip. We did buy some for ourselves though!
3) Not looking up more things to do, and then just going home because we couldn't find wifi and were tired of walking aimlessly around... haha.
4) Which led to not getting to sample Belgian beer!
